Wheaton, Ill.- The Wheaton women's soccer team remained undefeated in conference play on Saturday night with a 2-0 blanking of #25-ranked Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday night. With the victory, Wheaton moves to 13-0-2 on the season and 4-0 in CCIW play while the Titans fall to 9-2-4 overall and 2-1-1 in the CCIW. Wheaton will travel to Rock Island, Ill. on Wednesday night to take on Augustana College at 5 PM.
In a tightly contested match that was scoreless at halftime, the Thunder held a 12-8 advantage in shots and 3-1 edge in shots on goal. Illinois Wesleyan managed seven corner kicks with Wheaton earning four.
Zoie Samaan made one save and allowed two goals for the Titans, while
Kelsey Graham made one save in a clean sheet effort for the Thunder.
Breaking a scoreless tie early in the second half,
Sarah Guidera found the net first with a header into the net off a crossing pass from
Samantha Frank at the 50:53 mark to give Wheaton a 1-0 lead.
That lead was doubled just over 20 minutes later when
Leah DeMoss (PICTURED RIGHT) manged to convert on a shot from an extremely difficult angle that Samaan was barely able to get fingertips on, but she was unable to stop the ball from reaching the net. DeMoss' sixth goal of the season gave Wheaton a 2-0 lead that would become the final outcome.
Note worthy: Wheaton is now 3-0-1 in matches against ranked opponents this season...Wheaton's 15-game unbeaten streak to start the season is the second-longest streak in school history, trailing only Wheaton's undefeated season in 2007.
