Top-ranked women's soccer ties #18-Calvin 2-2 in two overtimes

GAME STATS Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton Thunder women's soccer team played Calvin College to a 2-2 draw in two overtimes tonight at Joe Bean Stadium in a matchup of nationally-ranked teams. Wheaton is ranked number-one in this week's NSCAA Division III Coaches Poll and Calvin (11-1-2) is ranked 18th in the same poll. Wheaton is now 12-0-2 on the year and will host Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday at 4:30 PM in a key CCIW matchup.

Thunder junior Anna Seabolt broke free for a goal in the 32nd minute to give Wheaton a 1-0 lead. The Seabolt goal was executed as the result of a double-assist from Leah DeMoss and Bailey Wysocki. In the 61st minute a Val Lelle corner kick at the southeast corner of Bean Stadium found Kristin Rauh (PICTURED LEFT) in front of the net and Rauh muscled the ball into the net to give the Thunder a 2-0 lead.

Calvin kept an aggressive push on the Thunder defense and it paid off in the 67th minute when the Knights' Heidi Scholten got a shot past Wheaton goalkeeper Mary Daghfal to cut the Thunder lead to 2-1. Scholten's goal was assisted by Kailey Jo. Calvin's Sydney Kinney blasted a shot at the net from about 10 yards out that hit the crossbar and bounced in the goal to tie the match at 2-2 in the 73rd minute. In the 84th minute Calvin pushed the ball through the Wheaton defense and a shot by the Knights appeared to go into the goal, but the Knights were called offsides to keep the score tied at 2-2. Wheaton had a strong scoring opportunity in the first overtime and one more in the second overtime, but the Knights kept the Thunder off the scoreboard to secure the draw.

Wheaton out-shot the Knights 21-12 in the match and the Thunder had a 6-3 edge in corner kicks. Daghfal made two saves and allowed two goals in 110 minutes of action. Calvin netminder Ashton Hearn made 12 saves allowed two goals.
