#25-Thunder men defeat Elmhurst 77-52

Wheaton, Ill. –
The Wheaton men's basketball team, ranked 25th in this week's D3hoops.com top-25, cruised to a 77-52 victory at home against Elmhurst College (4-14/0-7 CCIW) on Wednesday night. Wheaton improves to 14-4 on the year, with a 4-3 record in conference play. The Thunder will host fifth-ranked North Central (16-2/5-2 CCIW) on Saturday night at 7 PM in King Arena.

Wheaton scored the first 11 points of tonight's game to take an 11-0 lead with 15:00 left in the first half. Wheaton's largest lead of the first half was a 19-point bulge at 31-12 with 7:35 remaining before halftime. The Thunder led the Bluejays 41-29 at halftime. Wheaton maintained its double-digit lead throughout the second half. The biggest lead of the game for the hosts was Wheaton's 29-point advantage in a 73-44 lead with 5:40 left in the contest.

Junior Tyler Peters led the Thunder with 28 points on 10-for-14 shooting from the field. Peters also distributed six assists in the win. Michael Kvam (PICTURED LEFT) scored 14 points off the bench, draining four three-pointers. Brayden Teuscher scored 13 points, with three three-pointers, and three steals. Senior Nate Serenius (PICTURED RIGHT) shot 5-for-7 from the field, scoring 11 points. Nathan Haynes grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, with four offensive boards.

Wheaton shot a 52.8% (28-53) field goal percentage, with 52.4% (11-21) from three-point range and 71.4% (10-14) at the free throw line. Elmhurst shot 40.8% (20-49) from the field, with 20% (2-10) from three-point range and 66.7% (10-15) at the charity stripe. Wheaton owned a 32-26 edge in rebounding and Elmhurst held an 8-7 advantage on the offensive glass.

Alex Morgunov shot 6-for-7 from the field on his way to 14 points and nine rebounds. Charles Glass scored 14 points and Nick Sanford added 13 points.
