#3-Thunder women's soccer team shuts out #9-Washington University, 4-0

The Wheaton women's soccer team defeated rival Washington University-St. Louis, 4-0 on Saturday afternoon under sunny skies at Joe Bean Stadium on the Wheaton campus. Wheaton, ranked third in this week's NSCAA Division III Coaches Poll, improves to 6-0 on the season.  The Thunder will return to action on September 19th at UW-Eau Claire.

The Bears take their first loss of the season and fall to 4-1 for the year. Washington entered today's meeting ranked ninth in the same NSCAA Division III poll.

Thunder freshman Ally Witt gave Wheaton a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute when she collected a rebounded shot to net her third goal of the year. Wheaton was aggressive offensively in the first half with a 12-1 advantage in shots, including a 7-1 edge in shots on goal.

Sophomore Anna Seabolt extended Wheaton's lead just after halftime when she bent a shot into the goal from just inside the 18-yard box on a Sarah Guidera assist to increase the Wheaton lead to 2-0 in the 48th minute. Leah DeMoss netted a pair of second half goals to account for Wheaton's 4-0 victory. DeMoss' first goal came in the 58th minute when she converted a Mary Petitt pass for a goal. In the 79th minute, DeMoss collected a rebounded shot and blasted it in for a goal that was assisted by Annie Wooldridge.

Wheaton goalkeeper Kelsey Graham made five saves in posting her second shutout of the year.  Clara Jaques made seven saves and allowed three goals in 66 minutes in the Bears' net. Caitlin Heim made two saves and had one goal against her in 24 minutes of work. The Thunder out-shot the Bears 20-9 and the hosts held a 9-0 edge in corner kicks.
