Carol Stream, Ill. - Carthage College edged the Thunder baseball team, 2-0 on Friday in the final home game of the 2012 season for Wheaton. The Red Men scored two runs, on seven hits, with two errors and Wheaton was scoreless, with six hits and no errors.
Carthage is now 20-16 on the year, with an 8-11 CCIW record, while Wheaton is 21-17 overall, with an 11-9 conference mark. The two teams will play a doubleheader in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Saturday at 1 PM.
Thunder starting pitcher Trey Martin (1-1) took the loss in nine innings for the Thunder. Martin allowed two runs, with one earned run, on seven hits, with nine strikeouts and no walks. Martin was 2-for-4 at the plate for the Thunder, with a stolen base.
Carthage starter Danny Dahm earned the win (3-3) in nine innings as he held the Thunder scoreless, on six hits, with five strikeouts and one walk.
The Red Men broke a scoreless tied with a run in the top of the fourth inning. Carthage added an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning and two runs is all Dahm would need to earn the win.
