Carol Stream, Ill. – The Thunder baseball team split a doubleheader with Augustana College on Saturday at Lee Pfund Stadium to conclude a three-game CCIW series between the two programs. Wheaton won the first game 8-0 and the Vikings earned a 3-1 win the final game.
Augustana is now 21-11 on the year, with an 8-7 CCIW record. Wheaton is 18-14, with a 7-8 conference record. The Thunder will be at Benedictine on Wednesday night for a 6 PM contest with the Eagles. Wheaton will begin its three-game series versus North Central with a 3 PM conference contest against the Cardinals at Lee Pfund Stadium on Friday April 27.
Wheaton topped Augustana, 8-0 in today's first game. The Thunder scored eight runs, on 11 hits, with no errors and the Vikings were scoreless, on seven hits, with one error. Wheaton starting pitcher
Drew Golz was stellar in nine innings to improve his record to 7-1, in his second consecutive complete game shutout. Golz held the Vikings scoreless, on seven hits, with five strikeouts and two walks.

Justin Zeller was 2-for-4, with a pair of doubles as he scored twice and drove in two runs. #Ryan Miller was 2-for-4, with a stolen base. Freshman
Alex MaLossi was 2-for-4, with two RBI and
Austin Driggers drove in three runs with a 2-for-5 effort at the plate.
The Thunder took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a RBI-double by Zeller and a RBI by Driggers. A RBI-double to leftfield by Zeller in the bottom of the third inning increased Wheaton's lead to 3-0. The Thunder added another run in the bottom of the fifth as
Alex MaLossi drove in a run with a single to leftfield.
Wheaton extended its lead to 8-0 with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The inning featured a two-run single by Driggers and a RBI-single by MaLossi.
Augustana topped the Thunder in the nightcap, 3-1. The Vikings scored three runs, on nine hits, with one error and Wheaton recorded one run, on six hits, with one error. Thunder starting pitcher (1-2) took the loss in 1-1/3 innings. McDonald allowed two runs, on five hits, with one walk.
Miles Veth pitched 4-1/3 innings of relief, allowing one run, on four hits, with one strikeout and two walks.
Matt MaLossi held Augustana without a hit in his 1/3 of an inning.
Trey Martin held Augustana scoreless in three innings of work. Martin did not allow a hit, struck out six and walked two.
Augustana scored a run in each of the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead. Wheaton cut the Vikings lead to 2-1 with a run in the bottom of the second inning as
Taylor Howe hit a RBI-single to drive in Martin who led off the inning with a single. The Vikings scored an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning to account for the final score of 3-1.
