Moline, Ill. – The Thunder baseball team dropped a narrow 1-0 decision at Augustana on Friday night to begin Wheaton's three-game series with the Vikings (20-10/7-6 CCIW). Wheaton is now 17-13 on the year, with a 6-7 record in conference play. The two clubs will face each other in a doubleheader that begins at noon Lee Pfund Stadium in Carol Stream.
The Vikings scored the game's lone run in tonight's win, as the collected eight hits, with no errors and Wheaton had no runs, on four hits, with zero errors. Wheaton starting pitcher (4-3)
Evan Rahn took the tough loss in eight inning of work. Rahn allowed just one run, on eight hits, he allowed no walks and struck out two batters.
Senior
Drew Golz (PICTURED LEFT) collected a double and a single as he accounted for two of Wheaton's four hits.
Ryan Miller and
Justin Swider each had a single to round out Wheaton's offense.
Augustana pitcher
Mike Trotta (6-0) held Wheaton scoreless, on four hits in nine innings on the mound.
Augustana scored the game's lone run in bottom of the fourth inning. The hosts put together a one-out single and scored on a double down the rightfield line in the next at bat. Wheaton threatened in the top of the ninth inning as Golz led off the inning with a double down the leftfield line and advanced to third base on a fly out, but the Vikings Trotta pitched his way out of the jam to earn the victory.
