Carol Stream, Ill. – The Thunder baseball team began its three-game series with Millikin on Friday with a 12-2 win against the Big Blue in seven innings. Wheaton (14-12/4-6 CCIW) and Millikin (87-18/3-7) will conclude their series with a doubleheader at noon on Saturday at Lee Pfund Stadium.
Wheaton scored 12 runs, on 17 hits, with one error on today's win. Millikin scored two runs, on four hits, with no errors. Wheaton starting pitcher
Evan Rahn (4-2) worked a complete game to earn the victory. Rahn allowed just two runs, with only one earned run, on four hits, with four strikeouts and one walk.
Senior outfielder
Drew Golz (PICTURED LEFT) was 4-for-5, with three runs scored and a RBI. Golz hit a double and stole a base. Senior designated hitter
Austin Driggers went 3-for-5, with three RBI and a stolen base. Sophomore
Justin Swider went 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs scored. Swider belted a three-run home run and drew three walks. Justin Zeller# was 2-for-4, with a home run as he drove in two runs and scored twice.
Trey Martin was 2-for-4, with a triple as he scored two runs and drove in one run.
Wheaton took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Zeller hit a two-run home run and Golz added a RBI-single. Millikin hit a solo home run in the top of the second inning to trim Wheaton's lead to 3-1. Wheaton increased its lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the third inning off a RBI-double by Phillip Tuttle.
Wheaton added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as Swider (PICTURED RIGHT) belted a long three-run home run to leftfield and Driggers drove in a run with a RBI-single. Each team scored a run in the fifth inning as Wheaton led 9-2 after five innings. Wheaton's fifth-inning run came off a RBI-single by Driggers (PICTURED LEFT).
Wheaton picked up the three runs it needed to end the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. Zeller led off the seventh with a single and scored on the next at bat thanks to a triple by Martin. Martin scored on a RBI-single by Driggers and a RBI-single by
John Jensen-Johnson drove in Driggers to give Wheaton the victory.
