Schaumburg, Ill. – The Wheaton baseball team picked up its sixth win in its last seven outings in a 9-0 shutout of the host Dominican University Stars under warm and sunny conditions on Saturday afternoon. Wheaton is now 8-4 on the year, while Dominican falls to 5-6. Wheaton will be off until March 23-24 when it plays two games against Washington University (Mo.) in St. Louis and one game against Wisconsin-Platteville, also in St. Louis.
The Thunder scored nine runs in today's win against the Stars, with 11 hits, and one error, while Dominican was held scoreless on four hits, with two errors. Sophomore pitcher
Evan Rahn improves to 3-0, working eight scoreless innings on the mound for Wheaton. Rahn scattered four hits in the game, with six strikeouts and he allowed no walks. Thunder senior
Matt MaLossi pitched two-thirds of an inning of relief, with no hits and one walk. Freshman
Miles Veth faced one batter to close out the game, strking out the Stars' final batter to secure the win for the guests.

Wheaton jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Miller drew a leadoff walk#, followed by a Golz single. Both runners scored two batters later when Martin belted a three-run home run over the fence in leftfield. Wheaton added a run in the top of the second as Miller hit a one-out double and he scored on the next at-bat when Golz hit a single to rightfield.
Wheaton extended its lead to 7-0 with three runs in the top of the fourth inning as
Justin Zeller hit a two-run single and the Thunder also plated an unearned run. Golz hit a solo home run to lead off the top of the sixth inning
The Thunder added its final run in the top of the seventh as catcher
Taylor Howe drew a one-out walk, and in the next at-bat Jensen-Johnson hit a single. Golz followed two batters later with a two-out single to centerfield that brought Howe home and increased the guests' lead to the final score of 9-0.
