GAME STATS Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton women's soccer team was a 3-2 victor in overtime against Illinois Wesleyan on Tuesday in the semifinals of the 2012 CCIW Women's Soccer Tournament. The second-seeded Thunder advance to the tournament's championship match on Saturday.
On Saturday Wheaton will face the winner of the other semifinal, between top-seeded Augustana and fourth-seeded North Central on Wednesday in Rock Island. Saturday's Championship Match will be played at the highest remaining seed.
Illinois Wesleyan struck first in tonight's match as the Titans' Kate Dunaway scored on an Emily Hinchman cross in the 20th minute to give the IWU a 1-0 lead. Thunder freshman
Ally Witt booted in a
Leah DeMoss (PICTURED LEFT) cross from about five yards out in the 39th minute to tie the contest at 1-1. The score remained deadlocked at 1-1 at the halftime intermission.
Illinois Wesleyan's Hannah Ketterling allowed the Titans to retake the lead at 2-1 with a goal in the 65th minute as she scored off of a Hinchman assist. Wheaton time the match one minute and 14 seconds later when DeMoss deftly put the ball into the net off of a short pass from Witt in the 67th minute to tie the match at 2-2. Wheaton appeared to have a go-ahead goal in the 77th minute when DeMoss put the ball into net following a shot the rebounded off the goal, however, DeMoss was ruled offsides and the goal was waived off.
Witt scored the game-winner with 49-seconds remaining in the first overtime when put the ball in off of a pass from fellow freshman
Annie Wooldridge.
Wheaton out-shot the Titans 19-13 in the match, with a 7-1 edge in corner kicks for the Thunder. Wheaton goalkeeper
Kelsey Graham made four saves and allowed two goals in 99 minutes of work. IWU netminder Zoie Samaan made six saves and allowed three goals.
