#7-Women's Soccer team shuts out Wisconsin-Eau Claire, 3-0

GAME STATS BOXSCORE

Wheaton, Ill.
– The Wheaton women's soccer team posted a 3-0 shutout of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Saturday night in the closing day of action in the 2011 Bob Baptista Invitational. The Thunder, ranked seventh in Division III, improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Blugolds are now 1-1 on the year. Wheaton will return to action at 4:30 PM on September 7 when Calvin College visits the Thunder at Joe Bean Stadium.

Today's game endured a delay of an hour and 15 minutes when thunderstorms rolled through the area. The delay occurred early with just 12:13 played in the match. Wheaton took a 1-0 lead at the 12:13 mark of the match when freshman Sarah Guidera (PICTURED) headed in her first collegiate goal off of a Keri Shannon assist. Shortly after Guidera's goal, lightning was detected in the area – beginning the lengthy delay.

Wheaton increased its lead to 2-0 a little more than 6-1/2 minutes after the resumption of play when Shannon netted her second goal of the season, off of a Brait assist. Wheaton maintained its 2-0 lead for the remainder of the first half. In the 77th minute a shot by Thunder senior Ali Kopelman was deflected by a Blugold defender and collected by Thunder senior Kaitlyn Le Baudour who pushed the ball into the net to account for the 3-0 final score.

Wheaton out-shot UW-Eau Claire 15-10, with each team taking five corner kicks. Wheaton goalkeeper Hilary Barreto worked 90 minutes in the net for the Thunder, recording her first shutout of the season. Nina Behrenbrinker made three saves and allowed three goals in the Blugolds' net.
