St. Louis, Mo. – The Thunder women's soccer team converted two second-half penalty kicks to earn a 2-0 victory at Washington University (Mo.) on Saturday night. Wheaton (6-0) entered tonight's match ranked fourth in this week's NSCAA Division III Top-25, while Washington University (6-1) is ranked 12th in the same poll.
The two teams battled through a scoreless first half. The host Bears held an 8-5 advantage in the half.

Keri Shannon took the penalty kick for the 'Orange and Blue' and converted it for her fourth goal of the year. Orewiler was taken down in the box later in the match, this time at the 87:46 mark of the contest. This time Orewiler took the penalty kick and she converted it for her third goal of the season to give Wheaton the decisive 2-0 edge.
Thunder head coach
Pete Felske noted after the game, "This is by far the best effort we have had this year. This was a real nice team effort." He added, "It was a great game with two very good teams playing a similar style."
Each team took 13 shots in the match. Wheaton held a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Thunder goalkeeper
Hilary Barreto made three saves in recording her third shutout of the season. Barreto made a key save in the 83rd minute as she stopped a Lillie Toaspern shot to prevent the Bears from tying the game at 1-1.
Washington's Clara Jaques made two saves and allowed the two penalty kicks in the loss.
Wheaton will return to action on September 21 at UW-Stevens Point. Wednesday's match against the Pointers will start at 4 PM.
