#7-Wheaton earns a 3-2 victory against #15-ranked Illinois Wesleyan

The Wheaton Thunder women's soccer team picked up a big victory on Tuesday night with a 3-2 win against CCIW-rival Illinois Wesleyan. Tonight's game began under clear skies; rain moved in later in the evening with 2:52 remaining in the first half a Thunderstorm delay was called. The delay lasted for approximately 85 minutes.

Wheaton is now 16-1-1 on the year, with a 5-1 record in CCIW play. Wheaton will conclude its regular season with a conference match at Millikin on Saturday at noon. A Thunder victory against the Big Blue will give the 'Orange and Blue' its 15th CCIW Championship and the top seed in 2011 CCIW Women's Soccer Tournament, which begins on November 2. Wheaton is ranked seventh in this week's NSCAA Division III Coaches Poll, while Illinois Wesleyan is ranked 15th in the same poll. The Titans are now 12-3-1 on the year and 4-1-1 in CCIW play.

Wheaton took an early lead in the match when a Laura Karsten assist from the right corner of goal box found freshman Anna Seabolt in front of the net and Seabolt netted her fifth goal of the year to give Wheaton a 1-0 lead, 2:16 into the match. The Thunder extended its lead to 2-0 thanks to a Jaime Orewiler goal at the 10:08 mark of the match. The goal came off a Keri Shannon assist that went through Ali Kopelman to an awaiting Orewiler on the back post for key goal.

The thunderstorm delay occurred with 2:52 left in the first half. Play was set to resume when thunderstorms were again detected in the area, forcing a resumption of the delay for a total of an 85 minute delay. Once the final 2:52 of the first half concluded the Titans and the Thunder switched sides and quickly began the second half of play.

Illinois Wesleyan's Emily Hinchman put the Titans on the scoreboard at the 64:44 mark of the match on a goal that was assisted by Molly O'Brien. Orewiler netted her 10th goal of the season at the 84:53 mark of the match to give the hosts a 3-1 lead. Orewiler ran down the field on a break-away opportunity and the ball went into the net after being deflected by IWU goalkeeper Renata Butikas. Hinchman recorded her second goal of the night at the 86:44 mark of the match to cut the Thunder lead to 3-2. Wheaton withstood the Titan attack for the remaining three minutes to secure the critical conference win.

Wheaton out-shot the Titans 10-6 and each team took one corner kick. Thunder freshman Kelsey Graham played in net for the first half, with two saves. Hilary Barreto played in net for the second half, allowing two goals with two saves. Butikas played all 90 minutes for the Titans with four saves and three goals allowed.
