BOXSCORE

Rock Island, Ill. –
The Wheaton women's soccer team kept its unbeaten streak in tact on Wednesday, earning a dramatic 3-2 win in two overtimes at CCIW rival Augustana (10-5-1/3-1-0). Junior Val Lelle scored the game-winning goal with just 3:27 remaining in the second overtime period when she put the ball in the back of the net off of a Keri Shannon corner kick to win the match.

Augustana took an early 1-0 lead in tonight's match as the Vikings' Bridget Shrigley scored to give the hosts a quick lead. A little more than four minutes later, Wheaton senior Jaime Orewiler tied the match at 1-1 when she converted a penalty kick to score her eighth goal of the season. The two teams remained knotted at 1-1 for the rest of the first half.

Augustana opened the second half scoring as quickly as it opened the first half when the Vikings' Taylor Moesle put her team up 2-1 with a goal just 2 minutes and 20 seconds after the conclusion of the halftime intermission. Moesle's goal at the 47:20 mark was assisted by Shrigley. Augustana was awarded a penalty kick 52:33 into the match and Moesle's PK shot was stopped by Thunder netminder Hilary Barreto; who prevented the Vikings from taking a 3-1 lead. Barreto's save proved crucial, as Wheaton's Laura Karsten (PICTURED RIGHT) booted in the game-tying goal (86:35) to lock the score up at 2-2 with less than five minutes remaining in regulation.

Wheaton out-shot the Vikings 5-2 in the first overtime. The Thunder also out-shot Augustana in the second overtime with a 6-0 edge as Lelle's game-winning goal was the final shot of the game.

Wheaton doubled Augustana's shot output in the match as the Thunder out-shot the hosts 32-16 and held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. Wheaton goalkeepers Kelsey Graham and Hilary Barreto combined to make seven saves in the match, with each player allowing one goal. Augustana netminder Kayla Radloff made 14 saves and allowed all three Thunder goals.

Wheaton is now 15-0-1 on the season, with a 4-0 record in CCIW play. The Thunder will remain on the road for its next match, traveling to Elmhurst for a 5 PM contest against the Bluejays. (PLEASE NOTE: Saturday's match, originally scheduled for Behrens Park in Elmhurst has been moved to Langhorst Field on the Elmhurst College campus)
