Waverly, Iowa - The No. 3-ranked Wheaton College women's soccer team scored right away in the first half and added another right before halftime to beat No. 9-ranked Wartburg College 2-1 on Saturday.
The Thunder improve to 10-0 and the Knights fell to 8-1-1 in a matchup of top 10 teams from the NSCAA National Poll.
Wartburg came into the game with seven-straight wins while Wheaton had won nine straight to start the season. Senior forward
Ali Kopelman got the Thunder off to a lightning-quick start by scoring in the first three minutes of the game.
The hosts netted the equalizer about 10 minutes later via Anna Aquino to make it 1-1. However, senior defender
Esther Tan (PICTURED RIGHT) ended up with the game-winning goal with three seconds remaining in the first half.
Both teams were held scoreless in the second half. Wheaton ended up with the 10-6 shot advantage.
