Wheaton, Ill. - The Wheaton College women's soccer team used an offensive onslaught of shots to earn a 2-0 shutout victory over Washington (Mo.) Unversity on Saturday.

The No. 22-ranked Thunder improved to 7-2 while the Bears fell to 3-5.

Wheaton controlled the first half effectively, getting good long and mid range looks at the goal. The hosts jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 13:52 into the match as Jaime Orewiler knocked in a 20-yard shot off a free kick set piece from straight out. The ball hit the underside of the crossbar and went over the goal line. Keri Shannon was credited with the assist. In the half, Wheaton held an 18-5 shot advantage.

Orewiler helped in providing more cushion in the second half at 50:27. The junior attacking midfielder made a run up the right side of the field to the goal line and crossed the ball to the middle, where Brittany Bergh was waiting to knock in the goal from six yards out.

Washington played physically in the second half in an effort to get back in the game. But Wheaton stonewalled the Bears defensively on every attack by cutting off passing lanes, repossessing, and demonstrating crisp ball movement to the open player.

The Thunder ended the game with a 27-11 shot advantage. Goalkeeper Maddie Allen made two saves for her second collegiate shutout. Bergh's goal was her fourth in the last three games.

The Thunder continues its homestand on Tuesday with a 7:00 PM game vs. University of Chicago.
