Thunder women's soccer falls at Calvin College, 1-0

– The Wheaton women's soccer team, ranked 14th in this week's NSCAA Division III coaches poll, dropped its first match of the year on Saturday in a 1-0 loss under cool and rainy conditions at Calvin College. After a scoreless first half, Calvin's Francesca Smith blasted the ball in from 20 yards out in the 52nd minute to give the Knights the 1-0 advantage. Wheaton had four shots on goal in the game, and 11 shots total, but couldn't put one into the net in the shutout. Finish

Calvin out-shoot the Thunder 13-11 in the match and the hosts had a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. Calvin recorded four corner kicks in the match and Wheaton had two. Wheaton goalkeeper Maddie Allen made four saves and allowed just Smith's goal in 90 minutes of action. Calvin netminder Ashton Hearn recorded the shutout in making four saves in the match.

Wheaton is now 4-1 on the year and Calvin improves to 5-1 on the season. Wheaton will travel to #24-ranked Loras College on Tuesday night for a 7 PM match with the Duhawks that will be broadcast on WETN-radio.
