Rock Island, Ill. - The Wheaton College baseball team had its 10-game win streak snapped with a 9-2 loss at Augustana College on Saturday.
The Thunder are now 15-4 overall and 2-1 in the CCIW. The No. 15-ranked Vikings improved to 13-4 and 1-2 in conference play on the year.
After pounding out 22 runs in their previous two meetings with Augustana, Wheaton was held to only six hits in Saturday's contest. The Thunder plated both runs in the sixth inning as
Josh Weaver and
Drew Golz each hit RBI singles.
The Vikings scored one run in the first and third inning and added two more in the sixth to take a 4-2 lead. The hosts then tallied five insurance runs in the eighth inning to secure the victory.
Steve Dennison (4-1) took his first loss of the year in 7-2/3 innings of work on the mound. He allowed 13 hits, eight runs, walked two and struck out four.
John Peters (3-0) earned the win, allowing five hits, two runs, one walk and four strikeouts in six innings.
Wheaton's 10-game win streak stands as the second longest in school history. The Thunder continue its season with a doubleheader at No. 17-ranked Carthage College starting at 12:00 PM on Tuesday.
