Chicago, Ill. – The Thunder baseball team lost a 7-3 non-conference contest at University of Chicago on Wednesday afternoon. Wheaton is now 20-13 overall, while Chicago has a 16-12 overall record.
Wheaton will resume conference play on Thursday with a key CCIW doubleheader against North Park University at Alexian Field in Schaumburg. Thursday's twinbill will begin at 3 PM and will be broadcast on
Teamline and the second game will be aired on

Chicago used a four-run sixth inning in earning today's 7-3 victory. The Maroons scored seven runs, on five hits, with two errors and Wheaton plated three runs, on 12 hits, with two errors. Thunder senior pitcher
Zach Fallon (1-1) took the loss in 5-2/3 innings of work. Fallon allowed five runs, with three earned runs, on four hits, with seven walks.
Steve Noble worked 1-1/3 innings of relief, allowing two runs, on one hit, with one strikeout.
Caleb Winchester pitched the final inning, with no runs, on no hits, with one strikeout.
Thunder first baseman
Danny Pyne was 2-for-3 and drew two walks. Sophomore centerfielder
Justin Zeller was 2-for-5, with a home run.
Drew Golz was 2-for-5, with a double and a run driven in. Senior shortstop
Brian Kolb was 2-for-5, with a run scored.
Wheaton took an early 1-0 lead, as
Josh Weaver drove in a run in the top of the first inning. Chicago scored a run in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the contest at 1-1. Zeller hit a solo home run to right centerfielder in the top of the fifth inning to give the Thunder a 2-1 lead.
Chicago took the lead for good with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, keyed by a three-run double in the inning to take a 5-2 lead. Wheaton cut the Maroons' lead to 5-3 with a run in the top of the seventh inning on a RBI by Golz. Chicago plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to account for the 7-3 final score.
