Baseball completes a sweep of Spalding with a 17-8 victory on Saturday

Louisville, Ky.
– The Thunder baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Spalding University on Saturday with a 17-8 victory in the final game of a three-game series with the Golden Eagles. Wheaton (8-3) will host St. Francis University on Wednesday at Alexian Field in Schaumburg at 3 PM.

Wheaton scored 17 runs, on 17 hits, with one error in Saturday's victory and Spalding scored eight runs on 11 hits, with one error. Junior lefthander Steve Dennison (3-0) earned the victory in six innings of work, with two runs, on six hits, with seven strikeouts and no walks. Steve Noble pitched three innings of relief allowing, six runs, on five hits, with two walks and a strikeout.

Wheaton led 7-4 though seven innings, but the Thunder plated seven runs in the eighth inning to pull away and the guests added three more in the top of the ninth inning.

Sophomore Justin Zeller was 4-for-7, hitting a double and a home run, with three RBI and two doubles. Second baseman Ryan Miller was 4-for-6, with two runs and two RBI. Charlie Antal was 4-for-6, with a double as he drove in four runs and two runs scored. Danny Pyne hit a double, with three RBI and catcher Brian Whartnaby drew three walks and scored threw runs.
