Wheaton, Ill. – The Thunder women's soccer team, ranked
12th in this week's NSCAA Division III Coaches Poll, was a 3-0 victor under windy conditions against Elmhurst College (9-4-1/2-3-0) on Saturday afternoon at Joe Bean Stadium. Junior
Jaime Orewiler scored all three Wheaton goals to record her first hat-trick of the season.
Today's victory was the 11th straight win for the Thunder, to improve the team to 15-2 overall and 5-0 in CCIW action. Wheaton will travel to third-ranked Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday at 4:30 PM for a key conference match against the undefeated Titans. Wheaton took a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute on a goal by junior
Jaime Orewiler. Orewiler collected the ball at the top of the penalty box dribbled the ball past the Elmhurst defense and put the ball up and over Bluejay goalkeeper Allison Korbel to give her team a 1-0 lead. In the 32nd minute sophomore
Val Lelle had the ball at the end line and passed to Orewiler who blasted the ball into the net at the opposite post, to extend Wheaton's lead to 2-0. Wheaton held a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Orewiler netted her third goal and Wheaton's third goal of the match in the 62nd minute when she collected the ball on a long pass from
Kristen Clark and put it in the back of the net to account for the 3-0 final score.
Wheaton out-shot Elmhurst 22-10 in the match, while the Bluejays had a 5-1 edge in corner kicks. Wheaton goalkeeper
Hilary Barreto made three saves in recording her third shutout of the season. Korbel made three saves in the Bluejays' net.
