Naperville, Ill. - The Wheaton College women's soccer team picked up its ninth-straight win with a 6-0 victory over North Central College on Saturday.
The No. 12-ranked Thunder improve to 13-2 overall and 3-0 in the CCIW. The Cardinals fall to 5-8 overall and 0-4 in conference.
Visiting Wheaton set the pace from the onset with 12 shots and nine corner kicks in the first half. It only took about eight minutes to score the first goal as
Katelyn Kishkunas knocked the ball into the net off an
Ann Turner assist.
The Thunder tallied two more in the first half, one coming unassisted by
Megan Campbell at 21:24 and another by
Val Lelle with an assist from
Brittany Bergh at 33:04.
The second half got off to a roaring start as well. Wheaton tallied two goals in the first 80 seconds - the first by Bergh with an assist from
Shelby Anthony and then
Ali Kopelman scored unassisted.
Freshman
Grace MacKenzie also added her first collegiate goal at 59:46.
Esther Tan provided the assist.
Wheaton held a 19-3 shot advantage as well as a 10-2 corner kick edge. Thunder goalkeeper Hillary Barreto only needed to make one save to earn the shutout. Cardinal goalkeeper Amy Frazzini made seven saves in the loss.
The Thunder return home on Wednesday with a 4:30 PM game against Augustana College.
