Fourth-Ranked Thunder women's soccer tops Calvin 1-0

Ali Kopelman scored Wheaton's game-winner

Wheaton, Ill.
– The Thunder women's soccer team picked up its sixth straight win on Saturday afternoon, with a 1-0 victory against Calvin College. The Thunder, ranked fourth in this week's Division III Coaches Poll, improve to 8-1 overall. Calvin is now 6-3-0 on the year.

Wheaton's goal in today's match came early, when sophomore Ali Kopelman scored her fifth goal of the year at the 11:14 mark of the match. Ann Turner served up the ball to Taryne Lee who had a quick touch to Kopelman who netted the goal.

The two teams battled back-and-forth throughout the match, as Calvin out-shot the Thunder 13-9. Calvin had five corner kicks and Wheaton had two in the match. Freshman goalkeeper Hillary Barreto had a strong effort as she made six saves on the afternoon. Calvin netminder Kayla Sulzer made five saves and allowed one goal.

The Thunder will travel to University of Chicago on Tuesday for a match against the Maroons. Wheaton will return home on Thursday night when the squad hosts North Park in conference action at 7 PM.
