Eau Claire, Wis. – The Thunder women's soccer team won a battle at UW-Eau Claire, 4-2 on Saturday afternoon. Each of the six goals in today's game were scored during a flurry of offense in the first half. Wheaton improves to 4-1 overall and the Blugolds are now 1-2-1.
The first-half scoring started early in the match when UW-Eau Claire's Rachel Nerison scored 7:02 into the match. Thunder sophomore
Jaime Orewiler tied the match at 1-1, with her second goal of the year, 17:02 into the contest. Nerison scored again at the 23:57 mark of the match to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.
Less than three minutes later, Wheaton scored the first of three consecutive goals. The first of the three Thunder scores came at 27:54, off the foot of Orewiler, from a
Brittany Bergh assist to tie the contest at 2-2. All-American
Taryne Lee gave Wheaton its first lead, with a 3-2 advantage, when she scored her third goal of the year at 38:40. Wheaton sophomore
MacKenzie Williams scored 42:08 into the contest, thanks to a Lee assist, to extend Wheaton's lead to 4-2. Wheaton out-shot the Blugolds 8-7 in a scoreless second half.
The Thunder out-shot UW-Eau Claire 15-11 on the afternoon. Wheaton goalkeeper Hillary Barreto made two saves and allowed two goals in the Thunder net. UW-Eau Claire netminder Emily Kidd made seven saves and allowed four goals into the Blugolds' net.
