#2-Ranked women's soccer team opens its season with a 3-0 win at #14-UW Stevens Point

 - The second-ranked Wheaton women's soccer team used three second half goals to earn a 3-0 victory at 14th-ranked UW-Stevens Point on Tuesday afternoon in the season opener for both teams.

The first half ended in a 0-0 deadlock, despite Wheaton out-shooting the Pointers 9-4. The Thunder got on the scoreboard nine minutes into the second half with an Ali Kopelman goal. Wheaton extended its lead to 2-0 in the 82nd minute, when All-American Taryne Lee netted the 78th goal of her stellar career. Junior Brittany Bergh put the third Thunder ball of the afternoon into the net when she scored in the 88th minute of the match to account for the 3-0 final score.

Wheaton out-shot the Pointers 20-6 on the day. Wheaton's freshman goalkeeper Hillary Barreto made four saves in the match to record the first shutout of her career. UW-Stevens Point netminder Liz Hunter made seven saves and allowed three goals in the match.

Wheaton returns home this weekend to host the Bob Baptista Invitational. The Thunder will entertain Carleton College at 4:30 PM on Friday afternoon and face University of Puget Sound at 4:30 on Saturday afternoon.
