Men's soccer falls to Wabash 3-1 in the season-opener

Wheaton, Ill.
– The #23-ranked Thunder men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Wabash College on Tuesday night in the season-opener for both teams.

The Little Giants jumped out to a 1-0 lead when sophomore Femi Oluyedun chipped the ball over Wheaton goalkeeper Kit Carson 10:42 into the match. Wabash extended its lead to 2-0 at 19:51 into the match when Mark Babcock put the ball into the net off of an Ian Kelly assist. Less than three minutes later Wheaton senior Matt Swartz capitalized off of a Luke Partain assist to cut the Little Giants' lead to 2-1.

The score remained a 2-1 Wabash advantage for the remainder of the first half. In the 77th minute, Wabash's Dylan Andrew scored to extend the guests' lead to 3-1 in giving the Little Giants the victory.

Wheaton out-shot Wabash 22-11 on the evening. Wabash netminder Pat West made 10 saves and allowed one goal in 90 minutes of work. Carson made five saves and allowed three goals on the evening.

Wheaton will remain at home this weekend as the squad hosts the Bob Baptista Invitational. The Thunder faces Luther College at 7 PM on Friday and Wheaton entertains Taylor University on Saturday at 7 PM.
