Wheaton, Ill. - Senior quarterback
Sean Norris was named Team MVP to highlight the team awards that were handed out at the Wheaton College football team's annual postseason banquet on Saturday.
Looking back at the season, Head Coach
Mike Swider said, "The 2009 Wheaton Football banquet was a great opportunity for us to celebrate this past season as well as the careers of 19 seniors who remained committed to the ideals of this program and institution for four years. They have provided us excellent leadership and were passionate about Wheaton Football. During their careers here, Wheaton won one CCIW title and made two NCAA playoff appearances, reaching the national semifinals in 2009 and finishing the year ranked No. 4 nationally. Their four-year record was 36-10 including an 18-3 mark at home."
Norris (PICTURED TOP LEFT) earned the Parmalee Memorial Award for "Most Respected Player" and also the Lange Memorial Award for "Most Valuable Player." On the season, Norris completed 161 of 298 passes (54 percent) for 2,142 yards with 22 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He also ran for 236 yards and three touchdowns. The senior wrapped up his Wheaton College career ranked second in school history in total offense (7,016 yards), third in passing yardage (6,534) and third in passing touchdowns (65).
Inside linebacker
Ryan Hoyt (PICTURED RIGHT) received the John Henry Award for "Die With Hammer In Hand". Hoyt was a First Team All-CCIW and Third Team All-Region selection, finishing second on the team with 52 tackles. The senior also led the team with five sacks to go with nine tackles for a loss.
Wide receiver
Justin Zeller (PICTURED LEFT) earned the MDM Award for "Special Forces Player of the Year". The sophomore returned 11 punts for 126 yards and caught 19 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown.
The 12th Man Award for "Scout Team Player of the Year" went to center
Chris Kragthorpe on offense and linebacker
Pat Dansdill on defense. Dansdill made 11 tackles on the year.
The JR Bishop "Scholar Athlete Award" went to safety
Brian Hollett (PICTURED RIGHT). Hollett was named First Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V back in early November with a 3.53 cumulative grade point average in Biology. On the gridiron, Hollett was named First Team All-CCIW and Second Team All-Region as he led the Thunder in tackles with 71. He also had two interceptions, four pass breakups, 2.5 tackles for a loss and one forced fumble.
