Rex Kroger has been named a CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week in football, for his play last Saturday in a 50-7 victory at Augustana. Kroger's selection marks the first time this season a Wheaton player has earned the award and it is Kroger's first career selection.
Kroger scored the opening touchdown on Saturday in Wheaton's 50-7 victory at Augustana as he stymied the Vikings' opening drive of the game with a 57-yard interception return for a touchdown. The Vikings' offense had reached Wheaton territory and advanced to the Thunder 33-yard line when Kroger tipped an Augustana pass, caught the ball in mid-air off of his own tip, and returned it 57 yards for a touchdown. Additionally, Kroger made four tackles on Saturday, all solo tackles. Included in his tackle total was a one-yard tackle for loss of minus-one yards. He also registered a game-high two quarterback hurries against the Vikings.
The No. 16/17 ranked Thunder host Carroll on Saturday afternoon in a 1:00 p.m. kickoff at McCully Stadium. Saturday's game is the home opener for Wheaton and is also part of the school's Homecoming Weekend.
