Women's soccer falls in overtime at Augustana, 3-2

– The Thunder women's soccer team dropped its first conference match of the season on Wednesday night in an overtime loss at Augustana. The Vikings picked up a 3-2 overtime win against the Thunder. Wheaton, ranked 10th in this week's D3soccer.com Top-25 poll, is now 11-3 overall and 3-1 in the CCIW. Augustana is 22nd in this week's D3soccer.com poll and improves to 12-1-1, with a 4-0 record in league play.

Augustana took the early lead in the match when Caitlin Winkelman scored off of an Erin Coulson assist, just 13:04 into the match to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Thunder sophomore Jaime Orewiler put the ball into the back of the net to tie the match at 1-1, at the 28:44 mark of the match. The score remained 1-1 for the rest of the first half.

Augustana regained the lead 56:54 into the match when Katie Oakes scored her third goal of the season. Orewiler netted her second goal of the night at the 61:43 mark of the match to tie the contest at 2-2.

The two teams remained deadlocked for the remainder of the second half, sending the game into overtime. Each team took two shots in the overtime session; however, the key moment was the Viking's first shot on goal of the overtime. It was a shot by Winkelman with 1:34 remaining in the overtime session to give the Vikings the victory.

Wheaton took 11 shots in the match, with five shots on goal. Augustana recorded 10 shots, with six on goal. Each team had four corner kicks in the match. Wheaton goalkeeper Hillary Barreto made three saves and allowed three goals in 98 minutes of work. Augustana netminder Kayla Radloff made three saves and allowed two goals in the Vikings' net.

Wheaton will return to action Saturday afternoon with a match at University of Redlands and a contest on Monday at the University of LaVerne.
