The Thunder baseball team drops the home finale in a 2-1 loss to Augustana

Carol Stream, Ill. (5/3) – The Thunder baseball team closed out the home portion of its schedule on Friday with a narrow 2-1 loss to Augustana. Augustana scored two runs, on nine hits, with one error and Wheaton recorded one run, on nine hits, with one error. The Thunder (10-21-1/3-15) will close out the season in a CCIW doubleheader at Augustana (27-10/11-8) on Saturday afternoon in Moline .

Thunder sophomore David Niehls led off the bottom of the second inning with a double to left centerfield. Niehls scored on a single to leftfield by junior Matt Bradley to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead. Augustana rallied with two runs in the top of the sixth inning take a lead that the guests would never relinquish.

Thunder senior Matt Price (2-6) took the tough loss in complete-game effort of nine innings. Price allowed two runs, on nine hits, with two strikeouts and one walk. Niehls was 3-for-4, scoring Wheaton 's lone run. Six Wheaton batters each hit a single to account for Wheaton 's nine hits in the game.
