Jordan Golz is a junior forward and team co-captain for the Wheaton men's soccer team. Last year, Golz scored three goals with six assists and earned Second Team All-CCIW accolades. Jordan and his older brother Drew both played for the Thunder soccer team the last two years. Now in 2012, Jordan will be joined on the pitch by his younger brother Stephen. Below is a brief interview with Jordan.
Q: What is your major? What career do you plan on pursuing?
A: I am an Economics major. I don’t currently know what I am called to pursue but I seem to be leaning towards a career in which I will be using business to aid in the development of emerging market economies.
Q: Why did you choose to attend Wheaton and play soccer?
A: I am a third generation Wheaton student, so I grew up knowing all of the positives of Wheaton College and coming to watch the Brown brothers play soccer when I was little always excited me. In addition, I met some incredible guys on the soccer team during recruiting visits. I desired a great education where God’s plan for the student and the world is of the utmost importance, and I do not think any school in the world has that like Wheaton.
Q: What do you enjoy most about Wheaton?
A: I enjoy the friends I have made at Wheaton the most. The soccer team is full of amazing guys that I love to death, and I have been very blessed as well with a group of incredible friends outside of the team who are fun, encouraging, and spiritually challenge me.
Q: What is your favorite soccer memory so far in your time at Wheaton?
A: Last year’s game against Augustana was a blast. Everything we were putting into the box was ending up in the back of the net, and players like my brother Drew, Adam Blackman and Jason Lollar put on a clinic with some amazing goals that made scoring look easy.
Q: What has it been like to play collegiate soccer with both your brothers?
A: I am my brothers’ biggest fan. My brothers are my best friends and my greatest role models. I was fortunate enough to play with both of them for a season each in high school and everything after that has just been a bonus. They both push me so much more than I can push myself, and they both play with such a selfless, hard-working approach to the game that is truly inspiring. Also, they have always been very good at making me look much better than I am by scoring some incredible goals off mediocre passes (which I can’t say I mind). I really can’t say enough about how great it was playing with Drew and how great it is going to be playing with Stephen.
Q: Going into this year, how do you feel about this year’s soccer team? Any specific goals or expectations?
A: I think we have an incredibly talented team this year. We lost a big group of seniors from last year that were all very good players and leaders. But with another year of experience from our returning players, a few transfers, and some talented freshman, I think we can have a very special season. The last two years have ended during the conference tournament, and the players are hungry for an NCAA tournament appearance. We have the coaches, talent, and team chemistry to make a run in the tournament this year if we just have fun using the skills and abilities we have been blessed with and remember for whom we are playing.
