Carl Sveen is a senior swimmer from Wheaton, Illinois.  Sveen is a two-time All-CCIW swimmer who was named CCIW Men's Swimmer of the Week for the week of February 7 last year.  Below is a brief interview with Carl.

Q: What is your major?

A: I am an Applied Health Science major.

Q: What (if any) plans do you have after graduation?

A: I am planning on taking a little time off before I head to graduate school. I am planning on getting my Masters degree in Higher Education and working in Student Development.

Q: Why did you choose to attend Wheaton and swim?

A: I actually was very against swimming at Wheaton. I grew up swimming at this pool with my club team and high school swim team. I thought that I needed to get out of Wheaton to try something new for a change but the Lord showed me otherwise. Being a senior now, I could not have imagined my undergrad experience anywhere else. It is also really cool to be able to say that Coach Lederhouse was there to start off my swimming career and he will be there to see it end.

Q: What do you enjoy most about Wheaton?

A: I could go on and on about the things that I love the most about Wheaton. Thankfully, I have been able to be involved in Student Activities in addition to being a student athlete. I have loved being able to explore all the different worlds of what it is like to be a student at Wheaton College. I have felt extremely blessed to be able to grow and develop as an undergrad here. There are so many opportunities here at Wheaton and a lot of really cool people. Basically, I have enjoyed how full Wheaton has made me.

Q: What is your favorite swimming memory so far in your time at Wheaton?

A: There are too many to count! It honestly is so great to have the team that we have. The culture of the swim team is something that I will never be able to forget. But if I had to pick one specific memory it would be last years CCIW championship meet. We went up to Carthage and gave everything we had. It was amazing to see a lot of people step up and swim out of their minds. Watching people win individual events and seeing the shocked faces after others had just dropped a huge amount of time was really special. I also loved winning the 800-yard freestyle relay with three other guys. This was an event that we hadn’t won at conference in about 6 years. So that was really, really cool as well.
