Junior Drew Golz transferred to Wheaton in 2009-10 from the U.S. Air Force Academy. He plays both soccer and baseball at Wheaton, earning All-CCIW honors in both sports in 2009-10 as a sophomore. Below is a brief interview with Drew.

Q: What is your major?

A: Chemistry

Q: What are you looking to do following graduation?
A: At this point, I would like to pursue a career in medicine following graduation. More specifically, I think sports medicine would be really fun and rewarding.

Q: Why did you choose to transfer to Wheaton in 2009 and play soccer and baseball here?
A: To be honest, I really enjoyed many aspects of my previous school. Many people assume that I had a miserable time there because I transferred. However, it was a very good experience for me and I learned a lot. However, despite those good experiences and amazing opportunities, I felt that I was missing a close-knit Christian community and the type of educational and athletic environments that integrate Christian living and discipleship into everything. I felt that Wheaton had all of those things, so I chose to make the switch.

Q: What do you enjoy most about Wheaton?
A:
There have been few things at Wheaton that I haven’t enjoyed. But, above all, I have had an amazing time with the guys on both my soccer and baseball teams. I have never been on a team, let alone two, where everyone is out there working extremely hard not only for their teammates and school, but most of all for God. I didn’t know how I would be received as a transfer last year, but all of the guys on those teams have been great and really made this past year and a half an incredibly smooth transition and great experience for me.

Q: What is your favorite thing about playing soccer at Wheaton?
A:
Our fans are, quite simply, the best part about playing soccer here. It is a blast playing in front of a loud, rowdy crowd. And it’s not only the home games. In my opinion, our fans travel really well, and it’s amazing when we are at an away game and our fans drown out the other team’s fans. They get all of us pumped up and energized for every game.

Q: What is your favorite thing about playing baseball at Wheaton?
A:
During baseball season, all of the guys on the team get to spend a lot of time with each other. Personally, I really just enjoy hanging out with all of the guys on the team. They are a really quality group of guys, and I have learned a lot from all of them.

Q: Talk a little bit about what it is like to play two sports at Wheaton? Have you ever had difficulties with balancing two sports?
A:
Playing two sports at Wheaton is a dream come true. I love both of these sports, and it has been an amazing blessing to continue to play both of them. To be honest, it is very busy, and I do miss out on some off-season training for both sports. However, my coaches have been awesome, and I have never had difficulty balancing the two. Once one stops, the other starts, and the primary seasons of both sports don’t intersect at all. Again, I’m just happy to have the opportunity to play on both teams.
