Mundelein, Ill. - The Wheaton women's golf team competed at Carthage College's Firebird Fall Invite on Friday and Saturday at Ives Grove Golf Course. Wheaton finished 14th in the 16-team field.
Aurora University finished first at the two-round event with a total score of 615 over two days. Hope was second, well behind the Spartans with a 642, and UW-Whitewater was third at 643.
Aurora golfers Thanpimol Tharpanawongwech and Anna Simpson finish first and second respectively. Tharpanawongwech shot an 80 on Friday and a 67 on Saturday for a two-round score of 147. Simpson was second with a two-round score of 154 (78-76). Carthage's Lexi Manteufel and UW-Whitewater's Norah Berken tied for third with a 155 (79-76).
Thunder sophomore
Emma Lee was the top Wheaton golfer in a tie for 41st place. Lee shot a 171 for the weekend with an 87 on Friday and an 84 on Saturday.
Ava Hartnett finished 52nd with a 174 (90-84). Senior
Molly Holbert was 67th with a 190 (98-92).
Abi Edwards finished 82nd with a 204 and
Abby Smith was 90th with a 225.
The Thunder travel to Washington County Golf Course in Hartford, Wisconsin next Friday for the WLC Invitational hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran. Next Saturday the squad will remain in Wisconsin for a triangular match against MSOE and Wisconsin Lutheran at Currie Park Golf Club in Wauwatosa, Wis.
