Wheaton, Ill. -- After its midweek match at Carthage College was postponed to September 30 due to unfavorable weather conditions, the Wheaton women's tennis team welcomed Millikin University to town on Saturday. This afternoon's fixture was also affected by the weather, with the Thunder and the Big Blue meeting at the Wheaton Sport Center instead of the campus tennis courts. Wheaton rolled to a comfortable 7-0 victory today to improve to 3-0 on the year and 2-0 in league play.
All three of the Thunder's doubles pairings moved to 2-0 marks in CCIW competition, as
Karis Kim and
Tatum Thurstone combined for a 6-3 win in the #1 match,
Ella Malone and
Molly Ramsey logged a 6-2 result at the #2 line, and
Mia Luo and
Carly O'Leary earned a flawless 6-0 victory at #3 doubles.
Wheaton dominated the singles category on Saturday, with four of the six matches producing double-bagel scorelines in the hosts' favor. Luo sealed a perfect day on the court with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #6 singles, before Malone tallied the same result in her #5 duel. Kim topped her #1 singles opponent in 12 games, and
Sophie Dew also registered a clean sweep in the #4 fixture. Ramsey was one game away from joining this quartet, logging a 6-0, 6-1 success at #3 singles. Thurstone made it two match wins on the day with a 6-1, 6-3 decision at #2 singles.
After enjoying a smooth return to play, the Thunder will look to keep their strong form going when they take on the reigning CCIW regular season champion, North Central College, at 4 PM on Wednesday.
