Wheaton, Ill. - The Wheaton women's tennis team opened CCIW play on Friday with a conference matchup at home against North Park University (1-2, 0-2 CCIW). The Thunder defeated the Vikings 5-2 as Wheaton improves to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in CCIW play.
Wheaton recorded the first point of the afternoon by winning all three doubles matches. The No. 1 doubles team of
Tatum Thurstone and Kim Karis defeated the NPU team of Tyra Olsson and Alexandra Pugachova by a score of 6-2. The Thunder tandem of
Ella Malone and
Molly Ramsey earned a 6-4 win against Katharina Schuler and Isabelle Richter at No. 2 doubles.
Mia Luo and
Carly O'Leary picked up a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles against the Viking team of Nova Mickelsson and Jessica Dudas.
Wheaton won four of the six singles contests to secure the 5-2 win. Thurstone was a 6-3, 6-3 victor at No. 3 singles against Olsson.
Sophie Dew picked up a 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 1-0 (10-3) win against Dudas in a key matchup at No. 4 singles. Malone defeated Thea Gifvars 6-1, 6-3 in their contest at No. 5 singles and Luo was a decisive 6-2, 6-1 winner against Isabelle Richter in their matchup at No. 6 singles.Â
The Thunder take to the road for the first time this season on Wednesday afternoon for key CCIW contest against longtime conference rival Carthage College.
