Wheaton, Ill. -- Ten days after its last contest, the Wheaton men's tennis team returned to the court on Tuesday afternoon to begin a stretch of three home matches in five days by welcoming Concordia University Chicago to campus. The Thunder rolled past the Cougars, 7-0, this evening to conclude their non-conference slate in dominant fashion.
Today's fixture marked the first meeting between the two suburban programs since 2022, and just as they did on that occasion, the Thunder earned a perfect sweep of their NACC opponents without dropping a set.
Andrew Jang and
Andrew Winters combined for a 6-2 victory at #1 doubles,
David Hill and
Toby Schmidt teamed up for a smooth 6-1 result on the #2 line, and
Corin Tang and
Ryder Ward paired up for a 6-0 sweep in the #3 match to ensure a one-sided doubles slate for Wheaton.
Tang logged a 6-0, 6-2 outcome at #1 singles to set the tone for the Orange and Blue in the individual matches. Jang tallied a similarly lopsided 6-0, 6-1 win at #2. The middle matches both ended in flawless, double-bagel victories for the Thunder, as Winters and Hill rolled in their #3 and #4 duels, respectively. Ward matched Tang's 6-0, 6-2 count at #5 singles, before
Sam Schutz earned his first win of the season in the #6 matchup with a grueling 7-6, 7-6 double tiebreak victory to clinch his team's perfect scoreline.
Having begun a busy home week in good form, the Wheaton squad now faces a quick turnaround ahead of its next match. The Thunder will start their CCIW slate on Wednesday afternoon with a 4:30 PM contest against Elmhurst University.
