Lake Bluff, Ill. -- Two and a half weeks after its Spring Break slate in Florida was prematurely cut short due to rainy conditions, the Wheaton men's tennis team took to the courts once again on Saturday for a non-conference test at Lake Forest College. The Foresters earned their first-ever victory over the Thunder this afternoon with a 7-0 result in their Senior Day fixture. Lake Forest improved to 8-5 on the year with today's win, while Wheaton dipped to 2-6.
The MWC side swept the doubles matches to claim the opening point of Saturday's contest, withstanding a hard-fought 7-5 challenge at #1 doubles. Lake Forest then captured five of the six individual duels in straight sets to seal its match win. Sophomore
David Hill nearly secured a point for the Thunder at #4 singles, bageling his Foresters opponent in the second frame after falling 7-5 in the first. But the LFC player captured the ensuing ten-point tiebreak game to clinch a flawless scoreline for his team.
Wheaton will play its first match on the campus courts this season on Tuesday, April 7 when the Thunder host Concordia University Chicago for a 6:30 PM contest under the lights.
