Wheaton women's tennis team ends Spring Break trip with 7-0 sweep of St. Norbert College

Altamonte Springs, Fla. -- The Thunder women's tennis team returned to Sanlando Park in central Florida for the second time in three days on Friday afternoon for the third and final match of its Spring Break slate. Just as it did against Minnesota Morris on Wednesday, Wheaton earned another 7-0 sweep at the same venue today, defeating St. Norbert College in the program's first-ever meeting against the Green Knights. The Thunder finish their week in the southeast with a 2-1 match record and now own a 12-4 mark for the season. St. Norbert falls to 9-7 overall after Friday's defeat.

Madeline Gentry and Tatum Thurstone got this afternoon's match started in dominant fashion for Wheaton, posting a flawless 6-0 result at #1 doubles. The Orange and Blue confirmed their sweep of the doubles fixtures with a 6-1 victory at the second spot through Janet Kondo and Ella Malone and a 6-3 success from Sophie Dew and Carly O'Leary on the #3 line.

Wheaton captured all six solo matches in straight sets today to cruise to a commanding victory. Gentry enjoyed a near-perfect outing on Friday, dropping just one game en route to her comfortable #1 singles win. Doubles partner Thurstone posted a similarly-lopsided 6-2, 6-1 win at the #2 position, and Malone matched that result with reversed set scores at #3 singles. Kondo returned to the lineup with a pair of 6-3 frame wins at #4, while Dew secured a 6-3, 6-4 result in her #5 fixture. Mia Luo earned the fifth spotless sweep of her rookie season with another 6-0, 6-0 win at #6 singles to round out the Thunder's perfect day on the court.

After a successful end to its Spring Break schedule, the Wheaton squad will take a two-week pause from competition and will return to play on March 27th with a match against Lake Forest College in Hanover Park.
