Altamonte Springs, Fla. – The Wheaton women's tennis team opened its three-match trip to Florida on Wednesday night with a 7-0 victory against Minnesota-Morris. Wheaton continues its action on Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m. (EDT) with a match against St. Mary's (Ind.).
Wheaton's 7-0 sweep started with wins in doubles play. The No. 1 doubles team of
Madeline Gentry and
Tatum Thurstone teamed up for a 6-0 victory against Katherine Kelm and Mariah Mireles.
Janet Kondo and
Ella Malone earned a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles against the Cougars' tandem of Jhazlyn Wynne and Avery Davis.
Carly O'Leary and
Sophie Dew earned a win by default at No. 3 doubles.
Gentry was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 1 singles Kristen Muller while Thurstone picked up a 6-2, 6-0 victory against Mireles at No. 2 singles. Malone defeated Wynne 6-2, 6-1 in their match at No. 3 singles and Kondo was a 6-1, 6-3 victor at No. 4 singles against Kelm. Dew earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Davis at No. 5 singles and freshman
Mia Luo won by default at No. 6 singles.
