Wheaton, Ill. -- After posting consecutive shutouts in the Thunder women's soccer team's last two games, Wheaton goalkeeper
Leah Roe has been named the CCIW Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week according to today's announcement from the conference office. The accolade marks the freshman's first conference award, and she is Wheaton's first defensive honoree in women's soccer since fellow shot-stopper
Elizabeth Netz earned the recognition one year ago.
Roe made four saves in her team's scoreless draw with the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater last Wednesday, including an excellent one-on-one kick save in the first half and a diving stop with 11 minutes left in the game to help Wheaton earn a tie. That marked the Thunder's second-straight clean sheet, and Roe collected a third shutout on the spin on Saturday evening, as Wheaton began its conference slate with a 1-0 victory over Elmhurst University. The Thunder became just the second team to defeat the Bluejays in 2025 and the second to prevent Elmhurst from scoring after notching 29 goals through their first ten matches.
Roe currently has six shutouts to her credit this season, a figure which leads all CCIW goalkeepers. The hometown rookie and her teammates are next in action at North Park University in a 5 PM contest on Saturday.
