Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Wheaton women’s soccer falls at home to Hope

WHEATON, Ill. The Wheaton College women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to visiting Hope College on late Tuesday afternoon at Joe Bean Stadium.

The Thunder evened their season record at 3-3-1 while the Flying Dutch improved to 4-2-1 on the year.

Possession played out pretty evenly all game, with Wheaton holding a narrow 52-48 percentage edge in that category. But it was Hope who ended up getting the best offensive chances throughout the contest. The visitors broke onto the scoreboard in the 15th minute when a corner kick found Olivia Dieppa for a header goal.

That 1-0 scoreline persisted into the halftime break, and the first half stats showed Hope owning a 9-4 shot advantage and a 5-1 corner kick advantage.

The Flying Dutch went on to double their lead at the 62:08 mark of the contest. Halle Barnard's initial shot was saved by Wheaton goalie Leah Roe, but the rebound came right back to Barnard and she deposited the second chance into the back of the net. Hope then closed out the scoring with a third tally seven minutes later.

In the final box score, the Flying Dutch held sway in shots (14-7), shots on goal (6-2) and corner kicks (7-2). Wheaton's Marissa Davis and Cami Tofilon fired off two shots each for the home side.

Roe (3-3-1 record) absorbed the loss between the pipes, making three saves while allowing three goals in her 75 minutes of play. Elizabeth Netz entered for the remaining 15 minutes of game time and did not see a shot on goal.

The Thunder return to action on Friday evening with a road match at Saint Mary's College (Ind.), with opening kick set for 6 p.m. (ET)
