Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton Thunder volleyball team is hosting the 2025 Marilyn Scribner Invitational this weekend in King Arena. Wheaton opened action on Friday afternoon with a convincing 3-0 victory against Aurora University. In the second match of Friday's action for the Thunder, Lawrence University topped the hosts 3-1.
Wheaton opened the tournament with a 3-0 win against Aurora as the Thunder won the first set 25-14. The hosts picked up a 25-20 victory in the second set and Wheaton closed out the match with a 25-19 win in the third set. Senior outside hitter
Jordan Benford played well with a match-high 13kills in posting a .500 attack percentage with just one error on 24 attack attempts. She also registered four service aces in the match as Wheaton had nine aces in the match.
Ashton Major tallied seven kills with a .778 attack percentage.
Katherine Adkison and
Paris Griffin each collected six kills. Setter
Lacey Higgins had 26 assists. Libero
Grace Autry had 13 digs and Major had a team-high three total blocks.
Wheaton won the first set of Lawrence's 3-1 victory against Wheaton, 26-24. Lawrence won the second set 25-15, and picked up a 25-22 victory in the third set. The guests closed out the match with a 25-18 victory in the fourth set. Benford again led the Thunder in kills with 10, while Griffin added nine. Major tallied eight kills, while
Faith Bailey and
Mary Patrick each had six. Higgins had 22 assists for the hosts. Benford led Wheaton with 14 digs, Higgins had 13, and Autry tallied 11. Benford and Major each recorded two service aces in the outing.
The tournament resumes on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. Wheaton's first match of the is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. as the Thunder host UW-Stevens Point and they entertain Concordia-Chicago at 3:00 p.m.
