Wheaton, Ill. – The Thunder volleyball closed out the two-day Marilyn Scribner Invitational with a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon. The opening match of the day for Wheaton, UW-Stevens Point defeated the Thunder 3-1. The final match of the tournament was a dramatic 3-2 Wheaton victory against Concordia-Chicago. Wheaton posted a 2-2 record on the weekend and now has a 9-3 overall record for 2025.
UW-Stevens Point defeated Wheaton 3-1 in the second session of the day today. The Pointers won the first set 25-14 and Wheaton responded with a 27-25 win in the second set. UW-Stevens Point topped Wheaton 25-21 in the third set and the guests closed out the match with a 25-15 victory in the second set.
Katherine Adkison had a team-high 15 kills in the matchup against UW-Stevens Point.
Jordan Benford added 10 kills, while
Paris Griffin recorded seven.
Lacey Higgins had 18 assists and
Reese Donahoe contributed 14. Benford had a team-high 12 digs in the match, while Higgins added 11 and Libero
Grace Autry tallied 10.
Wheaton defeated Concordia -Chicago 3-2 in today's finale. Wheaton dominated the Cougars for a 25-7 victory in the first set, while CUC responded with a 25-17 victory in the second set. The Thunder won the third set 25-18, and Concordia won the fourth set 25-21. Wheaton closed out the match by winning the fifth set 15-12.
Adkison again led the Thunder with a match-high 17 kills, while Benford tallied 14 kills. Higgins had 24 assists and Donahoe had 14. Autry led all players with 21 digs in the match, as she surpassed the 1,000-career dig milestone in the five-set win. Benford recorded 16 digs,
Faith Bailey tallied five total blocks, and
Sarah Sanderson had three service aces in the match.
Wheaton opens CCIW play on Wednesday night against No. 14 Illinois Wesleyan as the Titans visit King Arena for the conference opener.
