Wheaton, Ill. -- Having taken care of fellow CCIW rival Millikin yesterday, Wheaton hoped to close its last of four-straight home contests with another victory in conference play. The Thunder did exactly that with another 5-2 win this afternoon against the Illinois Wesleyan Titans. With the win, Wheaton improved to 7-6 overall, remained undefeated in conference play, and extended its winning streak to six matches.
Wheaton began Saturday's meeting on a hot note by sweeping all of the doubles matches. The No. 3 doubles pair of
David Hill and
Evan Walther and No. 2 duo of
Andrew Jang and
Andrew Winters earned relatively easy wins of 6-2 and 6-3, respectively, while the No. 1 team of
Tim Steiner and
Jacob Williams ground out a hard-fought 7-5 victory.
Turning over to singles, the Thunder continued their dominance with a straight-set victory in No. 5 singles by
Corin Tang, his second double-bagel result this season. Tang's win was followed by set-sweeping victories for Winters in No. 6 singles, Jang in No. 4 singles, and Walther in No. 3 singles. Even though the Titans captured the top two singles matches, the Thunder had already secured victory by this point thanks to the aforementioned results.
Wheaton will look to keep rolling as it takes on a familiar foe in the Elmhurst Bluejays this Tuesday at the Lester Brune Tennis Courts in the team's first conference road match. The Thunder will then return home next Saturday for a non-conference test against Rose-Hulman.
