Wheaton, Ill. - The Wheaton women's tennis team hosted Coe College on Friday afternoon at the Wheaton Tennis Courts. The Thunder defeated the Kohawks, 4-3. Today's win gives Wheaton a seven-match win-streak against the Kohawks, dating back to 2014.
Wheaton won two doubles matches to earn the point for gaining the edge in doubles play.
Lydia Adams (PICTURED ABOVE) and
Madeline Gentry won a 6-2 decision at No. 1 doubles against the Coe tandem of Alli Hagness and Addison Leasure. The Thunder No. 2 doubles team of
Ella Malone and
Tatum Thurstone defeated the Kohawks' tandem of Sophia Fain and Alice Tysoe, 6-2.
Thurstone secured Wheaton's first singles win of the afternoon when she posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles against Hagness. Gentry followed with a 6-0, 6-3 victory against Fain in the matchup at No. 1 singles.
Janet Kondo's win at No. 6 singles gave the Thunder the decisive fourth point needed to secure the team win. Kondo earned a 6-2, 7-6 victory against Coe's Jaden Fuqua.
The Thunder return to action on Saturday afternoon with another match at the Wheaton Tennis Courts. Wheaton hosts Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology at 12:30 p.m. in tomorrow's contest.Â
