Wheaton women's tennis team begins Florida trip with 7-0 sweep of Curry College

Sanford, Fla. -- The Thunder women's tennis team returned to action on Wednesday in its first of three Spring Break contests in Florida this week. Wheaton took on the Curry College Colonels this evening and earned a 7-0 sweep over the Massachusetts squad to reach double-figures in wins on the season, as the team now owns a 10-3 record in 2024-25. The Thunder will continue their Spring Break slate in nearby Orlando tomorrow afternoon with a 2:30 PM (EDT) matchup against Calvin University.

Wheaton was flawless in the doubles competitions on Wednesday, posting 6-0 victories in all three matches. The experienced duo of Lydia Adams and Madeline Gentry earned a smooth win in their #1 doubles contest, while Ella Malone and Tatum Thurstone and Janet Kondo and Alexandra Wachs replicated this scoreline in their #2 and #3 matches, respectively.

The Thunder continued their dominance into singles play this evening, as the team won all six matches in straight sets while only dropping three games in total. Wachs (#2), Adams (#3), and Thurstone (#5) each secured double-bagel victories in their matchups. Gentry registered a 6-0, 6-1 win at the first position, and she was joined on this count by Malone at #4 singles and Kondo at #6 singles, ensuring that all six Wheaton players who took to the court on Wednesday got to celebrate two match wins.

The Thunder squad will look to carry over its sharp form into tomorrow's meeting with Calvin following a short turnaround.
