Melbourne, Fla. – The Thunder softball team continued its Spring Break trip to Florida on Wednesday afternoon with a pair of games. Emerson College defeated the Thunder 9-1 in today's opening game and Cornell (Iowa) edged Wheaton in a 1-0 decision in the second game of the day.
Wheaton's eight-game trip to Florida concludes on Thursday with two more contests. The final day opens up at 2:30 p.m. (EDT) against Nebraska Wesleyan. The slate of games for the trip concludes at 4:45 p.m. (EDT) with a matchup against Marietta College, the second game of the trip against the Pioneers.
Cornell defeated Wheaton in today's second game, 1-0. The Rams scored one run, on five hits, with no errors and Wheaton had zero runs, on three hits, with no errors.
Victoria Barbar pitched the first three innings for the Thunder as she allowed one run, scattering just two hits.
Shylah Dozeman pitched two innings of relief, scattering two hits, with one strikeout.
Kennedy Kemp work two innings of scoreless relief, allowing one hit.

Paige Andrews collected two hits, including a double for the Thunder.
Abby Whitehead added a single for the Thunder.
Cornell hit a leadoff double in the top of the third inning and that led to the lone run of the game as Rams' pitcher Hannah Rhoades stymied Wheaton's bats for much of the game.
Emerson defeated Wheaton 9-1 in today's opening game as the Lions scored nine runs, on seven hits, with no errors, and Wheaton scored one run, on six hits, with two errors.
Iris Jones pitched 1-2/3 innings as she allowed five runs, including two earned runs, on two hits. Dozeman worked an inning of relief, allowing four unearned runs, on three hits. Kemp pitched 1-1/3 innings of scoreless relief as she scattered two hits.
Olivia Nahorniak was 2-for-3, hitting a double, a triple, and a run scored for the Thunder in the contest against Emerson. Whitehead hit a single and drove in a run.

The Lions scored five runs, including three earned runs, in the bottom of the second inning to gain the lead against the Thunder. Wheaton scored a run in the top of the third inning as Nahorniak hit a one-out triple and scored in the next at bat on a RBI-single by Whitehead. The Lions scored four unearned runs in the top of the third inning to account for the 9-1 final score.
