Sanford, Fla. -- After a short turnaround following its first match of this year's Spring Break slate on Tuesday, the Wheaton men's tennis team returned to the Sylvan Lake Park courts in Florida to face Curry College in another nonconference contest. The Thunder swept the Colonels by a score of 7-0 this afternoon to claim a second victory of the season.
Today's match saw the Massachusetts program suffer from a lack of players, resulting in defaults at the #3 doubles and #6 singles positions, meaning that the Thunder only needed to win one of the two doubles contests to claim the point. Wheaton cruised in both fixtures, as
Evan Walther and
Jacob Williams secured an 8-0 sweep at #1 doubles and
David Hill and
Ryder Ward paired up for a comfortable 8-1 win in the second spot.
The Thunder did not use any of the same players in the singles competitions today, as five new faces came in to contest the solo matches. But this did not affect the lopsided nature of Wednesday's meeting, as
Tim Steiner,
Andrew Jang,
Corin Tang,
Andrew Winters, and
Samuel Schutz all earned flawless, double-bagel victories to secure a smooth team sweep for the Illinois side.
Wheaton will play its final match of the Spring Break trip and its last match before conference play begins tomorrow afternoon, as the Thunder take on the Calvin University Knights. First serve is scheduled for 3 PM local time on Thursday at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
