Granville, Ohio -- After a successful regular season and CCIW Championships that saw her established as the top female diver in the conference, Wheaton's
Lara Stamp traveled to the campus of Denison University on Friday afternoon to begin her two-day stay at the NCAA Division III Region I Diving Championship. Stamp is the only women's diver from the CCIW to participate in this year's regional competition and the first Thunder women's diver to qualify for the meet since Abby Prince did so in 2015. The freshman took part in the 1-meter diving event this afternoon and will compete in the 3-meter field on Saturday.
Stamp dove off the 1-meter board alongside 32 other student-athletes from around the Midwest on Friday. Each participant was afforded attempts at 11 different styles of dives to accumulate as many points as possible before all the final marks were tallied up. The rookie from Valparaiso, Indiana earned a total score of 274.50 from her 11 jumps via a round average of 24.95 points.
Stamp will return to the pool deck on Saturday afternoon to take part in the second event of the weekend, the 3-meter competition. The CCIW Women's Diving Student-Athlete of the conference championships is scheduled to dive at approximately 2:00 PM Central Time tomorrow.
